Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has described the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka as “more than a religious leader”, paying glowing tribute to the founder of the Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group of Companies, who passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 77.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, September 14, Dr Bawumia hailed Apostle Safo as a pioneering innovator, philanthropist, and national icon whose contributions to Ghana’s technological advancement and social development will never be forgotten.
“I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a pioneering Ghanaian innovator and the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission,” Dr Bawumia wrote.
Dr Bawumia praised the late apostle’s groundbreaking role in championing local industry, especially through the Kantanka Group’s achievements in automobile manufacturing, agricultural equipment, and alternative energy.
“He championed indigenous technology and inspired industrial growth in Ghana, giving hope to generations that we can find solutions from within,” the former vice president noted.
Beyond innovation, Apostle Safo was remembered for his humanitarian spirit and his open approach to leadership. His charitable works improved lives across the country, while his spiritual guidance left lasting impressions on all who encountered him.
“As a religious leader, his open arms received me. Anytime I called on him, I departed his presence with lasting words of encouragement and wisdom,” Dr Bawumia recalled.
Dr Bawumia extended condolences to Apostle Safo’s family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and all Ghanaians mourning his death. He prayed that the legacy of the man affectionately called the Star of Africa would continue to inspire the nation.
“His legacy will endure and inspire generations to believe in our domestic solutions, serve their communities, and put Ghana first,” he affirmed.
