Ghana has lost one of its most celebrated visionaries, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as “Kantanka, the African Star.” The founder of Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025, according to an official statement from his family and the church.
The announcement described Apostle Safo as “a man of God, technological innovator, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist” whose life embodied resilience, courage, and determination. A verse from Romans 14:8, cited in the statement, summed up his devotion: “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord.”
Apostle Safo rose from humble beginnings to become a household name in Ghana and across Africa. Through his Kantanka brand, he transformed the nation’s industrial and technological landscape with innovations in automobile manufacturing, machinery, and local technology.
Beyond industry, he championed education, agriculture, and philanthropy, often providing support for the underprivileged. He was widely regarded as a father figure to many, including orphans and the marginalized.
The statement hailed him as “a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless,” adding that Ghana has lost not only a gallant son but also a global trailblazer whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
Public tributes are already pouring in from across the country, with many expected to celebrate his contributions to faith, innovation, and national pride in the coming days.
According to the family, burial and funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. The statement was signed by his daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.
