Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley Dead

Ghana is mourning the loss of a respected diplomat and public servant, Sam Pee Yalley, who passed away on Sunday at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

He was the former Ghanaian High Commissioner to India and served as President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Professionals Forum.

Though the cause of death remains unconfirmed, his passing has sent shockwaves across the political landscape, prompting tributes from prominent figures, particularly within the NDC.

Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Bagbin was among the first to express his grief publicly, describing Ambassador Yalley as “an astute statesman and respected member” of the party.

“I learnt with pain of the passing of my brother and friend, Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley,” Bagbin shared on social media.
“Ambassador Yalley was a champion of professionalism in politics and a key figure of the NDC’s Professionals Forum. My deep condolences to everyone mourning the passing of this great man, particularly members of his immediate family.”

Ambassador Yalley’s career spanned law, public administration, and diplomacy. He held the role of Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority before his diplomatic appointment by President John Dramani Mahama in 2014.

During his tenure in New Delhi, he worked to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and India, particularly in areas of trade, education, and cultural exchange.

But his contributions extended beyond governance. Sam Pee Yalley was known for his deep commitment to advocacy, especially in promoting women’s leadership and professional inclusion in Ghana’s political sphere.

As President of the NDC Professionals Forum, he championed the importance of skilled professionals in governance and was seen as a bridge between the party’s grassroots and elite technocrats.

His passing marks the end of an era for many within the NDC and Ghana’s wider public service community.

Plans for a memorial and funeral service are expected to be announced in the coming days.
