The Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai, has confirmed that the leader and presidential candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, is under investigation for multiple alleged financial crimes.
According to Mr Srem-Sai, Akpaloo faces allegations of fraud, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering. The investigation is being led by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), which arrested him on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from his residence in Kumasi.
Despite being granted bail, the politician remains in custody. The Deputy Attorney General explained in a Facebook post on Friday, September 5, that the bail conditions have not yet been met.
“Suspect Percival Kofi Akpaloo is under investigation on allegations of various financial crimes, including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, dissipation of public funds, and money laundering. EOCO officials arrested him on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. He has, however, been granted police bail with the following conditions – a GH¢10 million (approx. $820,000) bond with two sureties to be justified. The suspect remains in the custody of EOCO pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions,” the statement read.
Akpaloo, who contested the 2024 general elections on the ticket of the LPG, has been a visible figure in Ghanaian politics, particularly known for campaigning on youth-centred policies. While his party has not broken into the ranks of Ghana’s dominant political forces, it has gained increasing visibility in recent years.
