Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, has categorically denied reports suggesting that she has switched her political allegiance from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.
The allegations, published by The Insight Newspaper, claimed that the former MP had abandoned her support for the current leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a strongly worded statement, Adwoa Safo described the publication as “false, misleading, and maliciously fabricated”, insisting that it was deliberately crafted to cause confusion and division within the party’s ranks.
“At no point in time have I made any statement, whether on record, in private conversation, or on any public platform, suggesting that I have withdrawn my support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” she stated.
She emphasised that her loyalty to Dr Bawumia remains unwavering, praising his leadership qualities and vision for the party and the country.
“Dr Bawumia has demonstrated exceptional leadership, humility, competence, and resilience even in the face of adversity. I strongly believe that he remains the best person to lead the New Patriotic Party into the 2028 elections and ultimately return the party to power,” she affirmed.
Adwoa Safo also cautioned against assigning blame to individuals over the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections, urging members to focus instead on unity and rebuilding.
“Leadership transitions often come with challenges, but assigning blame to one individual for our 2024 electoral outcome is neither fair nor productive,” she said, stressing that Dr Bawumia’s dedication to the NPP and Ghana cannot be questioned.
She further called on the media—particularly The Insight Newspaper—to practise responsible journalism by verifying information before publication.
“I urge members of the media to desist from publishing unverified and false stories that seek to distort facts and damage reputations. Responsible journalism demands fairness, accuracy, and truth,” she said.
Adwoa Safo demanded a retraction and an unqualified apology from The Insight Newspaper to correct the false narrative.
Reiterating her commitment to party unity, she pledged her unflinching support for Dr Bawumia and efforts to consolidate the NPP’s base, rebuild public trust, and prepare for victory in the 2028 elections.
