Adom-Otchere Rejects Claims of Being Shielded from Accountability Over OSP Detention

Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has dismissed suggestions that the public show of support he received during his recent detention by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was an attempt to protect him from legal scrutiny or place him above the law.

In a viral video released on August 2, 2025, Mr Adom-Otchere expressed gratitude to those who showed concern while he was in custody. The gesture, however, drew criticism from sections of the public, with some accusing his supporters of seeking to undermine the OSP’s anti-corruption work.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, August 4, Mr Adom-Otchere clarified that the expressions of solidarity were not endorsements of his innocence but rather protests against what many perceived as excessive bail conditions.

“All those people who I said thank you to, who’d expressed concern; I have seen some spin on social media. They were not expressing the concern that Paul Adom-Otchere has done something wrong and he is above the law and you cannot touch him.

No! They were expressing concern that the bail conditions that the OSP gave were too harsh and unreasonable and actually unknown to the jurisprudence,” he explained.

Mr Adom-Otchere was detained as part of an OSP investigation into a revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as GACL Board Chair, which is alleged to have breached procurement procedures. He was initially unable to meet bail requirements that included presenting landed property registered in his name — a condition he argued was unusually restrictive.

The OSP later revised the bail terms, enabling his release on Friday, August 1. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Special Prosecutor yet to announce the next steps in the case.
