Abronye’s Arrest: ‘Power Has An End; We’ll Have Our Revenge’ – Salam Mustpha

The political temperature between Ghana’s two main parties has risen sharply after the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, threatened retaliation against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the arrest and prosecution of NPP-affiliated members.

Speaking outside the Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday, September 9, moments after Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) was remanded into police custody, Mustapha declared:
“Power has an end, the tables will turn, and we will all have our revenge.”

Abronye was arrested on Monday, September 8, by the Ghana Police Service for “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He was arraigned before the court on Tuesday, where bail was denied. He has since been remanded into police custody until his next court appearance on Friday, September 12, 2025.

The outspoken NPP Chairman’s arrest has gripped national attention, given his controversial political style and recent revelation that he had sought political asylum in eight countries—the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire. He alleged that his life was under threat and accused the NDC government of weaponising state security agencies to intimidate and silence opposition voices.

Salam Mustapha’s fiery comments signal growing tension between the two dominant political parties ahead of Ghana’s 2026 general elections. His remarks have raised fears of possible street-level confrontations if political rhetoric continues to escalate.

The Ghana Police Service has not provided detailed information on what specifically led to Abronye’s arrest, though sources indicate that his public commentary may have triggered the charges.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that police also searched the home of former NPP Youth Organiser Moses Abor in connection with their investigations but did not find Abronye there at the time.

The case is expected to return to court on Friday, September 12, where the presiding judge will determine whether to grant bail or proceed to a full trial.
