Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Give Foreign Traders Three-Day Ultimatum to Vacate Shops

The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has issued a three-day ultimatum to foreign nationals engaged in retail trading within the hub, demanding that they shut down their shops or face enforcement action.

According to the Association, the presence of foreign traders in the retail space violates Ghana’s investment laws, undermines fair competition, and threatens the survival of indigenous businesses in the country’s largest spare parts market.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the General Secretary of the Association, Gifty Lovelock Naana Fianu, warned that members would invoke provisions of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act, 2013 (Act 865), particularly Section 27(1), which reserves retail trade for Ghanaian citizens.

“We are giving them three days to do this. Today, we will go round and humbly talk to them for them to understand, and then we will talk to their leaders on Wednesday. If they refuse to listen to us, that’s where we will bring in the authorities. We will send our letters to the police, give them five days, and then write a letter to all the institutions that are supposed to come in, and from there, we will do what we want to do,” she declared.

The Association further hinted at the possibility of citizens’ arrest should authorities fail to intervene, stressing that the patience of local traders has worn thin.

Meanwhile, Puretvonline can confirm that some affected foreign traders have already closed their shops in anticipation of enforcement, while a public announcement vehicle has been deployed around the enclave, issuing warnings to others.
