Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to resign, apologise to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and throw his support behind the acquisition of a new presidential jet.
In a social media post on Monday, August 18, Rev. Fordjour criticised the minister and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he described as “petty politics” surrounding presidential travels.
“Mr Principal, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana is expecting your resignation. NDC must apologise to Ghanaians and President Akufo-Addo for doing petty politics with presidential travels,” he wrote.
The Assin South MP argued that safety concerns relating to the presidential aircraft were too serious to be trivialised, insisting that a more pragmatic and bipartisan approach was needed to resolve the matter.
Rev. Fordjour further urged the government to be decisive by submitting a formal proposal for the acquisition of a new presidential jet, which, he said, was necessary to safeguard the president’s security and dignity during international assignments.
“The government must be bold to submit a proposal for the acquisition of a new presidential jet for the president’s safety,” he stated.
His comments come amid renewed public debate over the reliability of Ghana’s presidential aircraft, with critics raising concerns about its airworthiness.
Rev. Fordjour maintained that national interest must rise above partisan considerations, stressing that the safety and dignity of the Head of State should be treated as a matter of urgency rather than political point-scoring.
