3 Stolen State Vehicles Retrieved from Former GIHOC MD, Maxwell Kofi Jumah – Police

Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service over allegations of stealing vehicles belonging to the state-owned enterprise.

The arrest, which took place on Sunday, June 29, followed a formal complaint filed by GIHOC and the successful acquisition of a warrant. Police confirmed the development during a press conference addressed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor.

“Yes, it is true. Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah was arrested based on a petition submitted by GIHOC Distilleries,” DCOP Donkor stated. “The petition alleged that company vehicles had been stolen by him. He is currently in our custody at the CID Headquarters and assisting in investigations.”

In a significant breakthrough, the police have already retrieved three vehicles allegedly taken by the former GIHOC boss.

“As of this afternoon, the said vehicles have been retrieved. He is assisting us with further investigations, and we will proceed accordingly,” DCOP Donkor added.

This arrest reignites national debate over the stewardship of state resources, as calls grow louder for stricter oversight and accountability in state-owned enterprises.

The development also follows a recent wave of public concern regarding corruption and mismanagement in public institutions, heightening scrutiny on high-ranking former officials.

Investigations are ongoing, and police say more updates will be provided as the case unfolds.
