Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has declared that Ghana’s economy is firmly on the path to recovery, citing improvements in fiscal discipline, inflation control, and currency stability as key signs of progress.
Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, Dr Forson said the government’s efforts had not only stabilised the economy but also “reset” and rebuilt it following what he described as severe challenges inherited from the previous administration.
“We have restored fiscal discipline, brought inflation under control, stabilised the cedi, and rekindled investors’ confidence,” Dr Forson stated.
“This is not just a recovery; it’s a reset. This is a rebuilding from the ashes of a daunting inheritance, a heavy burden laid on us by the previous administration.”
The Finance Minister said the 2026 Budget reflects the government’s determination to sustain macroeconomic stability while driving inclusive growth and job creation.
He assured that the administration would maintain prudent fiscal management to safeguard the gains made under the ongoing economic reform programme.
“Confidence is returning; the Black Star is rising once more. Ghana is back, strong, and full of hope—and yes, our Black Stars are heading to the World Cup. The tide has finally turned, and Ghana’s economy has now recovered, marked by renewed investor confidence,” he said.
Dr Forson highlighted that Ghana’s inflation rate has significantly dropped, while the cedi’s volatility has eased, helping to improve business confidence and attract new foreign investment inflows.
He also said the 2026 budget builds on the foundations laid over the past two years, focusing on growth sectors such as agriculture, industry, and technology to consolidate Ghana’s economic rebound.
“This budget is about building on the foundation we have laid,” Dr Forson told Parliament, urging Ghanaians to stay optimistic about the nation’s economic future.
