A 20-year-old man, Kwadwo Bright, has been stabbed to death at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi following a fight that reportedly erupted over the ownership of a plastic chair.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, September 4, 2025, has left the community in shock.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the misunderstanding began at a snooker game centre when both Kwadwo and his friend—now the prime suspect—claimed ownership of the same chair. Although the matter was initially resolved, tensions flared again when the suspect later confronted Kwadwo and allegedly stabbed him in the neck.
Speaking to the media, the grieving mother of the deceased, Georgina Yeboah, recalled the heartbreaking moment she learnt of her son’s fate.
“I heard people screaming about a young man being stabbed and rushed to the scene, only to find my son in a critical state. Although the matter was reportedly settled, the suspect later attacked and stabbed Kwadwo in the neck, resulting in his death this morning,” she recounted.
Kwadwo was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police are yet to release an official statement but say investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect, who fled the scene after the attack.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who described the stabbing as a senseless act of violence over a trivial issue.
